Fosamax belongs to the group of medicines called bisphosphonates. It alters the cycle of bone formation and breakdown in the body and slows bone loss while increasing bones mass, which further prevent bone fractures. It is used to treat or prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis, steroid-induced osteoporosis and to treat pagets disease of bone.
